Our client is an education recruitment business supporting schools across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. They’re hiring a Primary Recruitment Consultant to take over a large, established primary desk and continue building it, strengthening relationships, increasing coverage, and driving consistent growth.

This is a trust-led hire. The desk has been carefully developed over many years, so they’re looking for someone who is relationship-first, dependable, and commercially strong—someone who will protect what’s already in place while taking it to the next level.

The role

Desk ownership, maintenance & growth

  • Take ownership of an established primary desk with existing client and candidate relationships.

  • Maintain service levels and protect key partnerships through consistent communication and fast, reliable delivery.

  • Grow the desk further by expanding school penetration, increasing booking volumes, and widening candidate coverage.

Client management

  • Proactive daily contact with schools to understand demand, plan ahead, and spot opportunities.

  • Deliver a high standard of service and act quickly when schools need urgent cover.

  • Handle issues calmly and professionally, ensuring long-term relationships remain strong.

Candidate management

  • Manage a pool of primary teachers and support staff: attraction, registration, retention and redeployment.

  • Match candidates to bookings quickly and accurately, particularly for day-to-day and short-notice cover.

  • Provide excellent candidate care to keep availability high and reduce fallout.

Compliance

  • Ensure safeguarding and compliance standards are met at all times.

Working pattern

  • Term time: 7:30am–5:00pm

  • School holidays: 9:00am–3:00pm

  • Hybrid: typically 4 days in the office / 1 day from home (more hybrid can be offered), but they prefer people in the office on Mondays and Fridays.

Commission & benefits

  • 15%–22% commission on everything billed

  • No threshold

  • 35 days holiday + bank holidays

Requirements (must-have)

  • Prior experience in education recruitment is essential.

  • Proven ability to run a desk: client management, candidate pipeline, compliance, and fast-paced bookings.

  • Relationship-led, resilient, and commercially minded.
